5. Turning and Changing Direction

Once you’re comfortable gliding and stopping, the next step is learning how to turn smoothly.

The Basic Crossover Turn

  • Bend your knees and shift your weight slightly in the direction you want to turn.
  • Cross one foot over the other while maintaining balance.
  • Push off with the outside foot to maintain momentum.

The Two-Foot Turn (Beginner-Friendly)

  • Keep both feet close together.
  • Gently rotate your shoulders and hips in the direction you want to turn.
  • Allow your skates to follow the motion naturally.
  • Turning takes time and practice, so don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t feel natural right away!
