5. Turning and Changing Direction
Once you’re comfortable gliding and stopping, the next step is learning how to turn smoothly.
The Basic Crossover Turn
- Bend your knees and shift your weight slightly in the direction you want to turn.
- Cross one foot over the other while maintaining balance.
- Push off with the outside foot to maintain momentum.
The Two-Foot Turn (Beginner-Friendly)
- Keep both feet close together.
- Gently rotate your shoulders and hips in the direction you want to turn.
- Allow your skates to follow the motion naturally.
- Turning takes time and practice, so don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t feel natural right away!
