6. How to Fall Safely and Get Back Up

Falling is a normal part of learning how to skate. The key is to fall correctly to avoid injury.

How to Fall Safely

  • Avoid falling backward by keeping your knees bent and weight slightly forward.
  • If you feel yourself falling, try to land on your side rather than your wrists.
  • Tuck your hands in to prevent them from getting run over by other skaters.

How to Get Back Up

  1. Roll over to your hands and knees.
  2. Place one foot up, then push yourself up with the other foot.
  3. Keep your knees bent to regain balance.
