4. How to Stop on Ice
Knowing how to stop is just as important as knowing how to start. There are a few effective stopping techniques:
Snowplow Stop (Beginner-Friendly)
- Bend your knees slightly.
- Point your toes inward and push your heels outward, forming a slight “V” shape.
- Apply pressure to the inside edges of the skates until you slow down and stop.
Hockey Stop (For More Experienced Skaters)
- Glide at a moderate speed.
- Turn your hips and shoulders in the direction you want to stop.
- Push out with one skate, using the inside edge to create friction, and come to a halt.
- Practicing stops early on will help you feel more in control on the ice.
